Episode 019 - Theatre

Podcast guest Claire Barnes
playing Mowgli in the Jungle Book
We talk this week with the director of the Wayne State Theatre, Professor Rusty Ruth, as well as theatre student Claire Barnes.

We're talking about the recent Kennedy Center festival and competition our theatre students participated in…as well as plans for the major WSC Theatre production of “Pirates of Penzance” March 26-29.

Pirates of Penzance is an amusing satire by playwright W. S. Gilbert with music by Sir Arthur Sullivan. The story follows Frederic who is indentured to a band of pirates. Frederic loathes piracy and longs for a better life, but a twist of fate hinders his plans. Meanwhile, the Pirate King has his own plan. A boisterous clash ensues. Pirates of Penzance premiered in 1879, however its comic social commentary remains relevant today. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students 12 years of age and under, with free admission for WSC students, faculty, and staff.
